Reciprocating Surface Grinders: We specialize in all sizes and brands of surface grinders, used and reconditioned, and we have been since we opened our doors in April of 1981. Reciprocating surface grinders with horizontal spindle are for sure, a basic component of virtually every machine shop now as well as maintenance departments of manufacturing plants. You would be hard pressed to find a machine shop or a tool and die shop that didn't have one or more surface grinders. The size of the surface grinder is determined by the size of the magnetic chuck(s), larger grinders may have two or more in a row. Chuck sizes typically range from 5 inch by 10 inch up to 68 inches by 320 inches or more. Spindle horse power ranges from 1 HP up to 250 HP. Some of the more popular brands are Acer, Brown & Sharpe, Boyar Shultz, Chevalier, Do-All, Elb, Gallmeyer & Livingston or G & L as it's called, Kent, Mattison, Okamoto, Parker-Majestic, and Thompson. Among the smaller and medium size grinders, Okamotos are presently the most popular. Among larger grinders, Mattison is the most popular. A real popular option that is often ordered on a new surface grinder is incremental down-feed which automatically down-feeds the grinding head in small increments; thus, allowing an operator to do other things. We buy very few grinders that do not have incremental down-feed. Almost all of the surface grinders that we buy that don't have it are very large grinders where IDF isn't demanded as often as with smaller grinders.
